DIMITRIS KOUTSOUMBAS:

The government and the other parties that welcomed the fall of Assad bear a huge responsibility for the possibility of a pact between Turkey and Syria

Speaking in the Parliament on 19 December, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, General Secretary of the CC of the KKE stressed the dangerous possibility of a pact between Turkey and Syria, along the lines of the unacceptable pact between Turkey and Libya, which disputes Greece’s sovereign rights and undermines the future of the Greek, Turkish and other peoples of the region.

Specifically, he said the following, among other things:

“I would like to conclude my speech with a crucial issue that the KKE raised from the very first moment during the recent discussion on the state budget. It is the dangerous possibility of a pact between Turkey and Syria, along the lines of the  pact between Turkey and Libya, which would completely ignore the sovereignty and the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus in principle.

The KKE condemns and warns against such a development. Both the government and the other parties, PASOK and SYRIZA, who welcomed the fall of Assad, i.e. the intervention of the jihadists supported by Turkey and Israel —as these two facts are inseparable— bear a huge responsibility.

You gave cover and legitimacy to the intervention of Turkey, which is supported by the United States, as the new US president has said, and now you are shedding crocodile tears for what is to come at the expense of the peoples of the region. You have learned nothing from what happened with the Euro-Atlantic intervention in Libya, which you also supported at the time and was also exploited by the Turkish government. You are hypocrites and Pharisees, but above all you are dangerous.”
