In recent days, the prosecution of KKE members and the municipal authority of the city of Tirnavos, which was elected with the support of the KKE, began in recent days on the grounds of their participation in the mobilization that took place on 6 November 2024. During this mobilization, members of the KKE and KNE blocked six trucks carrying ammunition destined for Ukraine.

The Labour Centres of Larissa and Trikala, the Unitary Federation of Agricultural Associations of Larissa and other mass organizations of the labour and popular movement in Thessaly express their condemnation of the attempted persecution against the KKE members and the municipal authority of Tirnavos. They demand that the Greek government stop any attempt to terrorize the militants of the workers’–people’s movement who resist and organize the struggle against the country’s involvement in the war plans of the USA - NATO - EU imperialists and the transformation of the region into a US-NATO base of war for the interests of the monopoly groups.

Stelios Tsikritsis, the Mayor of Tirnavos, stressed among other things: “The municipal authority and its executives, along with other militants, are being targeted and prosecuted simply for doing the obvious: defending the people, peace, security and life itself. The participation of the municipal authority in the peaceful mobilization that stopped the passage of the cargoes of death through the heart of our city, is an honour for Tirnavos, not an accusation.”
