National Congress of the All Workers’ Militant Front (PAME)

Our Power is in Organization, Hope lies in our Struggles, Our weapon is Solidarity

Hundreds of trade union organizations all over the country are preparing to meet in the National Congress of the All Workers’ Militant Front (PAME), which will take place on 18 and 19 June 2022 in Athens. It is a culmination of the effort to organize the workers’ struggle for their rights, against employers and their governments.

Trade unions, unionists, and workers have already responded to PAME’s call and more than 420 trade union organizations are preparing to participate in the works of the Congress. Among them there will be 20 Labour Centres, 16 Sectoral Federations of workers in the private and public sector, and hundreds of first-level trade unions from all sectors. These numbers reflect a new potential for the regroupment of the labour movement, utilizing the valuable asset of the experience drawn from the organized collective struggle, which will be also be a subject of discussion in the Congress.

The PAME National Congress is held in a period where the workers and trade union organizations are taking militant steps forward. In a number of sectors, workers have decided to take strike action focusing on Collective Labour Agreements, against high prices that diminish the working-class families’ income and the anti-labour laws allowing to put Collective agreements on ice and bring salaries into a state of stagnation. The workers and trade unions in LARCO have decided to clash with the governments’ efforts to throw them out of work. Militant initiatives, work stoppages, and interventions for workers’ rights are taking place in workplaces. This activity can enrich the discussion, the exchange of experience, and the goals for the culmination of the struggle in the coming period.

PAME, the unionists, and trade unions organizing the Congress are calling for mass participation until the last minute. They are holding visits, meetings, events, and mass leafleting in workplaces and sectors highlighting the importance and content of the Congress as well as the need for broader forces to embrace this initiative.

In the framework of the National Congress, militant trade unions from all over the world will come to Athens, expressing their solidarity with the struggles and demands of the labour movement in our country. On Friday 17 June, that is, the day before the congress, PAME is organizing an event with the participation of the international delegations under the theme The Action of the Unions in All Conditions - Experience from the Strikes and Workers’ Struggles during the Pandemic. 35 unionists from 20 countries will take part in the event. Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba from South Africa and Pambis Kyritsis from Cyprus (President and General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions – WFTY  respectively) will also attend the event.
