By intensifying the repression against the workers'-peoples struggles, governments and the EU are escalating the attack

KKE MEP Kostas Papadakis addressed the plenary session of the European Parliament in the debate on the "The impact of COVID-19 measures on democracy, fundamental rights and the rule of law", denouncing the further criminalization and intensification of the repression against the workers'-peoples struggles. In his speech he specifically mentioned the following:

«Ιn Greece, the government of the ND - like all governments in every Member State of the European Union - not only does not take effective measures against the pandemic but, in the midst of a capitalist crisis, escalates the attack with new sweeping upheavals against the labor rights in favor of business groups. The condition for them to be imposed is the further criminalization and intensification of the repression against the workers'-peoples struggles, the restriction and the violation of the right to strike, to demonstrate and to act in the trade unions. The resolution despite thecheap concerns justifies all this, as long as it is “necessary, proportionate, temporary and with a solid legal basis”, while calling on the Member States to limit the right to demonstrate “only in cases where it is absolutely necessary and justified”. In the name of the pandemic, it also gives the green light for tracking and personal data processing applications.

The people, with their organized struggle for their contemporary needs and with respect to all the protection measures, will defend their rights and will cancel in practice reactionary laws and decrees.
